Designintoys is an exhibition of not just toys, but icons from your childhood. Everything from LEGO sets to playmobil ships to Monopoly (the board game of course) fill you up with nostalgia and you’ll wish that you never grew up. I had the chance to take a friend along to the exhibition. We did not know what to expect to be honest. When we did get there however, both of us turned into kids. I could see the glint of happiness in his eyes.
There is a lot of emphasis on the design philosophy of toys as well. Some concepts that were developed with kids themselves are on display. It is interesting to see these concepts. Makes you wish you had the chance to do that when you were a kid!
There is a section where they play advertisements from the by gone days. Again, nostalgia alert! If you are a design student or a designer, then you’ll appreciate the exhibition a lot more. I lament that my friend and me couldn’t particularly do that.
There is no entry fee. They are open from Tuesday to Saturday from 14.30 to 19.30 hours and on Sunday from 10.00 to 19.30 hours. Mondays are closed.
Designintoys is a simple yet profound exhibition. You can spend an hour and go through all the exhibits. The hostess is warm and welcoming. She is well informed and can give you more information on the exhibits if you are interested.
Worth a visit if you’re in the Bovisa neighbourhood. Do not miss it!
