JRR Tolkien said “Not all those who wander are lost”. I couldn’t particularly experience it until I visited Milan. I am a student. I don’t have a car or a motorcycle (and lack the patience for the public transport) so I usually walk everywhere. It was truly a blessing in disguise, as I came to understand that the best way to discover a city, is to walk through it, feel its movements, see its emotions, taste its offerings, touch its structures and smell its scents. I would recommend no other way to explore a city, other than by walking. Milan is a treasure trove and if you look around, you will never go unrewarded.
Many events of Expo in città in May focus on well-being. There are a number of activities that are being addressed. But I would like to touch on something that everyone can do. And you guessed it, walking.
The ‘What a beautiful Milan!’ walks are something that I would personally recommend. The tour is more like a journey through the glorious past of Milan. There are 7 paths designed, each telling a unique and gripping story of Milan. Through the tour you will visit the Roman archaeological remains, Renaissance landmarks, palaces of Porta Venezia, the gardens of Indro Montanelli, canals, redeveloped areas of Porta Genova, and Porta Nuova district to name a few. Experience the past, get to know Milan better and at the same exercise a bit. It can’t get better! There are two walks scheduled, one on the 2nd of May and the other on the 6th of May.
Milan like every other big metropolitan city, has its breathing spaces. When you want to get away from the concrete jungle and seek urban solace, you can head to the Trenno Park or Fontanili Park. On the 17th of May the FAI is organising a walk around the Expo from Trenno to Fontanili Park. It would be a an amazing chance to soak up some flora and fauna as the Fontanili Park is home to numerous species of animals, birds and amphibians. The park is managed by the WWF and spans 25 hectares. A treat for kids and animal aficionados.
Now I’ve gone through the list the main events for May and my article would not be complete if I did not mention this. THE HARLEM GLOBE TROTTERS! If you do not know about them, then you have been living under a rock! I’ve seen them perform once and I can never forget it. It doesn’t matter if you don’t play/appreciate basketball, you cannot miss these magicians perform their tricks. They perform on the 3rd of May at Mediolanum Forum, Assago.
