27 July 2015 Pinacoteca di Brera
Pinacoteca di Brera

A visit to the Pinacoteca di Brera is a must for any person particularly interested in Renaissance art. Located in one of the most beautiful suburbs of Milan, I recommend visiting the museum on a Sunday, as the long strip of Corso Garibaldi is filled with cyclists, buskers, artists and restaurants that spill out onto the streets. It really adds to the Milanese experience. It has the most well known Italian artists that started and developed the iconic art movement. The Pinacoteca houses works by Raphael, Mantegna, Bramante, Rubens and Caravaggio. It also covers in depth other European artists of that time including the influential Flemish artists Van Dyck, Jan de Beer and more.

Leonardo da Vinci 1452 - 1519

In 2007, After being announced as holders of the 2015 Universal Exposition, Comune di Milano (City of Milan) and publishing company Skira decided to hold a showcase to promote Milanese culture and ideals using the themes of Milanese, Universal & exceptional.  From this there was but one choice. The great artist and Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci, for an exhibition simply titled LEONARDO.  Beginning in April and continuing until July 17th the exhibition is housed at the grand Palazzo Reale, next to Il Duomo. The Palazzo is a grand space and a perfect match for the exhibition. 5 years of research, acquisition and organization has culminated in the most exhaustive and complete collection of Leonardo’s lesser known drawings, paintings models and draft works, including St. John the Baptist, the Annunciation, and La Belle Ferronnière.

Harlem Globetrotters

The Harlem globetrotters are one of the most recognizable teams in the world of sports, while having the unique trait of not actually playing in any professional league. Sporting  (no pun intended) a history that began far back in 1927 they preceded the formation of the NBA. The original Harlem Globetrotters (not originally coming from Harlem, but just associated with the neighborhood’s rich African American community) were one of the first professional basketball teams and would compete against rivals, using flair and athletic prowess; traits still evident today some 70 years later.
