So what are you doing with your Friday evening? Feeling a bit nostalgic and want to stay warm, perhaps with that someone special? Want entertainment but perhaps you’re feeling like mixing it up from your usual Netflix binges? Don’t fret! I’ve got a solution for you.
The Opera/musical “I Promessi Sposi” or “The Betrothed,” just opened at the beautiful Teatro degli Arcimboldi. This upbeat musical features it all- romance, drama, beautiful costumes and stunning set designs. Set in the 1620’s, the story follows Renzo and Lucia, a couple deeply in love yet faced with the craziest of altercations and obstacles to finally join in the union of marriage. The story follows a plot line to the likes of “The Sound of Music” meets “Romeo and Juliet.” Filled with evil villains with unrequited love, nuns and covens, close abductions, the beautiful city of Milan, threatened priests and one crazy story, “I Promessi Sposi” is sure to leave you feeling entertained and transported to another time.
I will leave it at that to not give too much more away, but I can tell you, you will leave singing along to the songs stuck in your head for the next few days… “Vino! Vino! Vino!” anyone? You will just have to see the musical to catch on to the joke.
Tickets are available online at http://www.ipromessisposi-operamoderna.it/il-tour-2015-2016/ . The show will be in Milan until the 25th of October, so get your tickets before the show moves on to its next city! So bundle up, grab a buddy and mix up your weekend a bit, eh? Until next time, “Vino! Vino! Vino!”
